Rhosonics SDM stands for Slurry Density Meter and is a device that can measure the density of slurry in real time. This equipment uses non-intrusive ultrasonic sensors to measure real-time density and solid content of mineral slurries at high density levels and very large pipes. SDM has a robust design with sensors made of highly wear-resistant materials to withstand harsh process conditions.
Rhosonics helps dredgers and mineral processing plants replace nuclear density gauges with ultrasonic technology. This transition will help operators achieve process optimization in a safer, more reliable, sustainable and cost-effective manner. This is how Rhosonics contributes to a greener, smarter industry.

Measurement principle

SDM measures the density of slurry (fluid) based on the impedance and reflection (Power Interface Echo) of ultrasonic waves. As shown in the picture below, the concentration of the slurry is determined by the strength of the Power IE that is reflected when the force generated by the ultrasonic sensor does not penetrate the sample. When measuring water or air, the Power IE value appears as +. (The Power IE value that does not penetrate water or air and is reflected is high.) When measuring slurry, the Power IE value is displayed as -. (The level of Power IE reflected after passing through the slurry is low)

RCU remote control device

SDM can come with sensors, displays and operating panels integrated into a compact all-in-one system. The user interface of these instruments can be difficult to reach, for example due to installation in difficult locations in the process pipe.
However, in these cases the Rhosonics RCU remote control unit will be the perfect solution. This multi-function device is connected to the equipment by cable and can be used to monitor measurement results and change settings in real time from a safe and convenient location near the process. Another function of RCU is a communication protocol converter. For example, one of the RCU models has a HART/4… Equipped with 20mA signal. HART/4… The 20mA signal can also be converted to a digital Profibus DP signal.
